A match is expected that, on paper, seems uneven. However, it promises to be entertaining. Four-time world champions Germany are the overwhelming favorites to win their opening match in Group E against Curaçao. This is the small Caribbean island nation that has qualified for a World Cup for the first time.
A victory for the Curaçaoan team would pay out odds as exorbitant as +4500. For this match, betting sites expect nothing less than a resounding victory for the Germans. Above all, it's clear that the pressure is on the Europeans. The World Cup they won in 2014 seems like a distant memory, as Germany underperformed in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, failing to advance from the group stage. Reaching the quarterfinals in the last European Championship didn't inspire much either.
However, this team managed by Nagelsmann is the most talented in years; It boasts, among other players, a duo that looks set to be devastating for their opponents: Musiala and Wirtz.
As for Curaçao, although it seems unlikely, midfielder Livano Comenencia said he believes his team can qualify, despite a tough group, as they share it with Ecuador and Ivory Coast in addition to Germany. The modest Curaçaoan team was seen traveling in a bus without windows. Another interesting fact about this team is that it is managed by 78-year-old Advocaat, who will become the oldest coach to lead a team in a World Cup.

Germany - Curacao: Form Analysis
Germany enters this World Cup ranked tenth in the FIFA rankings but seventh in terms of the bookmakers' favorites to win.
In the last European Championship, Spain eliminated Germany. After losing to Portugal and France, both on German soil, they finished fourth in the Nations League. It was from that point on, after losing a qualifying match against Slovakia, that the four-time world champions corrected their course. From September 7, 2025, to May 6, they knew only victories, topping Group A of the European qualifiers.
Germany made a good impression in the friendlies they played in the lead-up to the World Cup. They bid farewell to their German fans with a resounding 4-0 victory over Finland, with two goals from Undav, one from Wirtz, and another from Musiala. In Chicago, Germany defeated the USA 2-1, with Sané scoring a spectacular long-range goal.
A difference between World Cup teams rarely seen before
Meanwhile, Curaçao arrived at the World Cup ranked 82nd in the FIFA rankings. Just qualifying was a feat, and they achieved it by topping an undefeated group in which they competed against two teams with a longer footballing tradition: they finished ahead of Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.

Germany & Curacao Squad Analysis
The German national team blends veteran experience with young players at the peak of their careers. Musiala returns to the United States, the same country where he suffered a career-ending injury when he fractured his leg. However, the young midfielder, an absolute star for Bayern Munich, is healthy and will be one of the most closely watched players at this tournament.
Musiala won't be alone; Liverpool star Wirtz will join him on one side and likely the versatile Sané on the other. Havertz, recent Premier League champion with Arsenal and scorer of the winning goal in the last Champions League final, will probably be the center forward in Nagelsmann's lineup. But he also has another goal-scoring predator on the bench, Deniz Undav, who has had a fantastic season with Stuttgart.
All of Nagelsmann's decisions seem intuitive in assembling the best possible German starting eleven. However, his insistence on starting the 40-year-old veteran goalkeeper, Neuer, as the first-choice keeper did generate some criticism. It's true that Baumann was the goalkeeper in the friendlies.

Our Germany vs Curacao Prediction
Curaçao's story is astonishing; the island of only 157,000 inhabitants managed to qualify for the World Cup on sporting merit. This is no coincidence; they have the most naturalized players, many of whom were born in the Netherlands but have Curaçaoan ancestry, and this strategy was key to creating a moderately competitive team.
However, on the eve of the World Cup, Curaçao played in Glasgow and was thrashed 4-1 by a Scottish team that doesn't possess half the footballing weapons that Germany has. It's a match that has felt like a rout since the day the draw set it.
Our prediction for Germany vs Curaçao is: Germany to win by 4 or more goals.
