Monday’s first kick-off at the 2026 World Cup will see Belgium and Egypt do battle in Seattle, where the pair will clash at Lumen Field.
Hotly tipped for success at several major tournaments in the last decade, the Red Devils have typically failed to live up to expectations on the biggest stage. Now that they’re flying under the radar, can they be more successful? For the Egyptians, there has been little World Cup success to shout about. The Pharaohs will be appearing at the tournament for the first time since 2018, and will be hoping to qualify for the knockouts for the first time since 1934.
The Belgians couldn’t really have asked for a better opening-round opportunity. The Egyptians can sit deep and frustrate, but they don’t pack much of an offensive punch and are likely to be overpowered by a team that has much more final-third quality, so much so that the Belgian win could easily be priced shorter than odds of -149.

Belgium - Egypt: Form Analysis
The Red Devils delivered two strong displays during their warm-up campaign, with Rudi Garcia’s men first beating a decent Croatia team by two goals to zero, before they really stepped on the gas against Tunisia, scoring five goals without reply on their way to a comprehensive victory. During that game, we saw what this Belgian team can do offensively, so the Egyptians will need to be disciplined defensively if they’re to get a result here.

It’s been far less exciting from the Pharaohs over the last few weeks. Following their disappointing quarter-final exit at AFCON around six months ago, they delivered a decent display to beat Saudi Arabia by four goals to zero in March, but that display has not paved the way for a more free-scoring Egypt, with Hossam Hassan’s men scoring only two goals in three games since. They prepared for the big tournament by defeating Russia 1-0, before losing 2-1 to Brazil.

Belgium & Egypt Squad Analysis
Rudi Garcia is definitely one of the World Cup head coaches with lots of options, and he clearly has some tough decisions to make regarding his starting XI. Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans and Thibualt Courtois are expected to start every game that matters. Apart from that trio, though, nothing seems guaranteed. Having been on the bench last time out, Romelu Lukaku could return to the starting team, but both Charles De Ketelaere and Dodi Lukebakio scored in that game, so they too are in contention for an offensive spot.
The man who is arguably the Pharaohs best ever player will probably replace Haissem Hassan.
The Egyptians are much more predictable in terms of a starting XI. Hossam Hassan will likely pick a similar team to the one that took to the field against Brazil in that final warm-up game, with Mohamed Salah coming back in from the start. The man who is arguably the Pharaohs best ever player will probably replace Haissem Hassan.

Our Belgium vs Egypt Prediction
Sometimes, it's a question of overall quality, and the Belgians simply have lots more overall quality than their opponents here, so much so that the could easily be priced shorter than -149 to win this Group G opener. the Egyptians have found it hard to make themselves known in the final third, and despite scoring against Brazil last time out, they were a clear second best all game. Off the back of such an effort, they look set to struggle against a team that has bags of offensive quality, and not just in the starting XI.
