One of Sunday’s World Cup games introduces both Ivory Coast and Ecuador to the tournament. The two nations will be hoping to get off to a good start, and they’ll have the chance of doing just that at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The Ivorians will end their World Cup hiatus having not qualified for the tournament since 2014, when they exited at the group stage for the third renewal on the bounce. For the Ecuadorians, it’s all about building on a string of qualifications since a first appearance back in 2002. Having failed to make it out of the groups at the 2022 renewal, the South Americans will be looking to advance to the knockouts for only the second time in history.
If we look at what these two teams have produced in recent times, then this could easily be a more exciting game than the early odds suggest. With both teams heading to Philly in fine scoring form, ‘Over 2.0 Asian Total Goals’ appeals.

Côte d'Ivoire - Ecuador: Form Analysis
From a preparation point of view, the Ivorians could not have asked for more ahead of this World Cup. Back in March, they hammered in four without reply against the South Koreans, before delivering a sturdy display to beat the Scots by a goal to zero. Those encouraging wins were followed by success against 2018 world champions France, while the in-form Africans completed their prep by defeating Philadelphia II in easy fashion. They’re ready for this.
Those encouraging wins were followed by success against 2018 world champions France, while the in-form Africans completed their prep by defeating Philadelphia II in easy fashion. They’re ready for this.
The Ivorians are not the only ones ready, though. This Ecuador team is not to be taken lightly, with Sebastián Beccacece’s men not losing since September 2024. Yes, 2024. In the build up to the 2026 World Cup, the Ecuadorians tied with both Morocco and Netherlands back in March, before defeating Saudi Arabia and Guatemala in two recent warm-up games.

Côte d'Ivoire & Ecuador Squad Analysis
Ivorian head coach Emerse Faé took a slightly experimental approach in that primary warm-up game against the French, benching both Amad Diallo and Nicolas Pepe, but both players are key to how the Ivorians perform offensively, so we can expect both to start this game. Inter Milan forward Ange-Yoan Bonny may have to settle for a position as a substitute, though Simon Adingra could start.
Pedro Vite and Pervis Estupinan, both of whom were on the bench against Guatemala, are expected to return to the starting lineup.
There are plenty of decisions for Sebastián Beccacece to make. The Argentine coach must decide whether to restore Flamengo forward Gonzalo Plata to the starting XI, though dropping Jordi Caicedo, who scored during the final warm-up game, won’t be easy. Pedro Vite and Pervis Estupinan, both of whom were on the bench against Guatemala, are expected to return to the starting lineup.

Our Côte d'Ivoire vs Ecuador Prediction
The early market has this game priced as if a lack of goals is very likely, though if we really think about it, it's not too difficult to conclude that goals are more likely than the time-of-writing odds suggest, leaving 'Over 2.0 Asian Total Goals' to go down as a value bet.
It's also worth mentioning that both teams are likely to view this as a game to win, especially as they're in a group with the Germans, prompting a more open game the early betting points towards. After all, neither team has struggled to score goals in recent times, so don't be surprised if the goals flow in Philly.
Our Ivory Coast vs Ecuador Pick: Over 2.0 Asian Total Goals.
