The Chicago Cubs will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard today when they face the Giants in the second game of a three-game series at Oracle Park in San Francisco. First Pitch for this NL battle is scheduled for 9:45 pm EST. Chicago came into the series fresh off a sweep of the Angels in LA and having won six of their last seven games. But the lineup struggled against Justin Verlander, scattering seven hits over Verlander's six innings and scoring just two runs en route to a 5-2 loss.
Colin Rea will start for the Cubs today. Rea has gone 10-5 in 22 starts (26 appearances) with a 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and .261 OBA. He went 5-2 in eight starts (11 appearances) on the road with a 3.81 ERA and .274 OBA. In a May 6 start vs. the Giants at home, he pitched five innings, giving up eight hits, five runs (four earned), and two walks while striking out four. As for the Giants, young Carson Whisenhunt will get the start, his fifth of the season. He went 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a .243 OBA. Two of his starts have been at home; he's gone 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA and .270 OBA.
