Greece takes on Italy on Friday, August 29, at the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Cyprus.
Italy lost their last two preparation games but they still finished their preparations with an impressive 4-2 record. They did lose to Greece in one of those games, but the real match starts on Friday.
After all, this is a formidable Italian roster. Sweet-shooting forward Simone Fontecchio is ready for a starring role. He had a bit of a down year in the NBA last season, but the 29-year-old sharpshooter is tasked to lead the Italians.
Veteran forward Danilo Gallinari is back for another tour of duty, along with former NBA big man Nicolo Melli.
Still, they'll be hard pressed to have a perfect game against the Greek. Greece won four of their seven preparation games heading into EuroBasket. And of course, they have the Greek Freak in their camp.
Giannis Antetokounmpo returns with guns ablaze and a hunger to give Greece its first EuroBasket medal since 2009. He is coming off another 30-point average season with the Milwaukee Bucks, and his mid-range jumper is better than ever.
