Check out our long-term picks below, along with stats and tips for making smart Ligue 1 predictions. Every single Ligue 1 matchday brings plenty to get excited about.

Ligue 1 Winner Prediction: Who Takes the 2026-2027 Title?

Ligue 1 Winner Pick

Outside of the French title, which goes to PSG almost every year at this point, Ligue 1 is shaping up to be a tightly contested race from top to bottom through the end of the 2026-2027 season.

Across the league's various stadiums, from the Vélodrome to Pierre Mauroy, and from Groupama Stadium to the Parc des Princes, France's top clubs will battle for the title, Champions League spots, Europa League and Conference League qualification, and simply staying in the top flight.

As for the title, PSG is once again the bookmakers' favorite heading into the season, no surprise there. Last year, Paris put together another historic campaign, sweeping nearly everything in sight (Ligue 1, Trophée des Champions, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, and, most notably, the Champions League).

This year, expect Luis Enrique's side to once again dominate domestically, chasing a sixth straight title and holding onto their spot atop French soccer. Monaco, Lille, Lens, Lyon, and Marseille shouldn't be counted out, but they'll have a tough time keeping pace over 34 matchdays and figure to instead battle it out for European spots. Our Ligue 1 2026-2027 winner prediction: PSG wins the title!

Ligue 1 Top 4 Prediction: Which Teams Qualify for the Champions League?

Ligue 1 Champions League Pick

Along with the eventual champion, the clubs finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in Ligue 1 will earn their spot in the Champions League (with the 4th-place team entering via the third qualifying round). That's a slight change from previous years, when 3rd place only earned a playoff spot and 4th place didn't qualify at all. That's due to the new Champions League format introduced two years ago, which we break down in detail in our Champions League predictions.

Behind Paris Saint-Germain, who we expect to take the title, Marseille and Monaco look more than capable of grabbing a top-4 spot, and even a podium finish. Heading into the season, these are the two clubs we feel most confident about. Marseille is looking to bounce back from a disappointing season and brought in a strong coach who knows the league inside and out.

Behind them, though, expect a much tighter fight. On paper, Lille, Lens, Rennes, and Lyon all look like they'll be in the mix. We like Lille, now a regular in Europe, to grab that final Champions League spot. Our Ligue 1 top-4 prediction: PSG, Marseille, Monaco, and Lille qualify for the Champions League!

Ligue 1 Podium Prediction: Favorites' Odds

  • Marseille +100
  • Lens +160
  • Monaco +160
  • Lille +200
  • Lyon +260
  • Rennes +500
  • Strasbourg +1400
  • Nice +1600
  • Toulouse +2000
  • Brest +3300
  • Paris FC +6400
  • Lorient +6400
  • Auxerre +9900
  • Le Havre +9900
  • Angers +24900
  • Le Mans +24900
  • Troyes +24900

Ligue 1 Europa League Prediction: Which Club Lands the Spot?

Ligue 1 Europa League Pick

Along with the Coupe de France winner, the club that finishes 5th in Ligue 1 will qualify for the 2027-2028 UEFA Europa League. In the race for that spot, we're looking at the same clubs mentioned above (Lyon, Lille, Lens, and Rennes), plus Strasbourg. Lens, coming off a historic season, looks like the club with the best shot at 5th place and another shot at continuing its European run.

Building off our top-4 prediction above, we're adding Lens right behind that group. Our Europa League prediction: Lens qualifies for the Europa League!

Ligue 1 Conference League Prediction: Which Club Lands the Spot?

Ligue 1 Conference League Pick

Whichever club finishes 6th in Ligue 1 this season (or 7th, depending on the Coupe de France winner) earns a spot in the next UEFA Conference League. Considered Europe's third-tier club competition, it's already featured French clubs like Nice, Rennes, Marseille, Lille, and Strasbourg, the latter reaching the semifinals last year.

This year, Monaco will represent France in the competition. That said, landing a spot in any European competition remains a real goal for most of France's top clubs.

Building off our top-5 prediction, we like Rennes to sneak in behind that group and grab the last available European spot through the league table. We're putting a small wager on the Brittany club. Our Conference League prediction: Rennes qualifies for the Conference League!

Ligue 1 Relegation Predictions: Which Clubs Go Down?

Ligue 1 Relegation Pick

Down at the bottom of the table, the fight to avoid relegation is just as intense in Ligue 1 this season. As a reminder, the clubs finishing 17th and 18th will be relegated for the 2027-2028 season, while the 16th-place club plays a relegation playoff against a Ligue 2 side to try to stay up.

Several clubs are fighting to avoid those bottom three spots, and we expect Le Havre, Troyes, Le Mans, Angers, and Auxerre to be right in that mix all season long. We're not particularly optimistic about Le Havre or Angers, who've flirted with the relegation zone for two straight years and could find themselves on the wrong side of it again this season.

The third spot is tougher to call, but we're putting our chips on Auxerre, who also struggled to stay up last year and lost some key pieces, including their coach and top scorer. Our Ligue 1 relegation prediction: Le Havre, Auxerre, and Angers among the bottom three!

Ligue 1 2026-2027 Top Scorer Prediction: Who Wins the Golden Boot?

Ligue 1 Top Scorer Pick

Beyond the team-based storylines, there's also a hotly contested individual award in Ligue 1: top scorer. So which forward takes home the Golden Boot for the 2026-2027 season?

Here's our list of players to watch this season:

  • Ayase Ueda (LOSC)
  • Amine Gouiri (Marseille)
  • Loïs Openda (Lyon)
  • Lassine Sinayoko (Paris FC)
  • Folarin Balogun (AS Monaco)
  • Ousmane Dembélé (PSG)
  • Esteban Lepaul (Rennes)

Ousmane Dembélé won the Golden Boot two years ago, but it was Lepaul who took it home last season. Expect another tight race right down to the final matchday!

New to Soccer Betting? How Does Ligue 1 Work?

Ligue 1 is France's top professional soccer division, featuring the country's 18 best clubs playing each other home and away. Between August and December, every club plays each other once, then the fixtures repeat between January and May. Each team faces every opponent twice, once at home and once on the road, for a total of 34 matchdays and 306 matches league-wide.

By the end of the season, a handful of table spots carry major stakes:

  • The team that finishes 1st is crowned champion and qualifies for the Champions League
  • The teams finishing 2nd and 3rd also qualify for the Champions League
  • The 4th-place team qualifies for the Champions League's third qualifying round
  • The 5th-place team qualifies for the Europa League (along with the Coupe de France winner)
  • The 6th-place team (or 7th, depending on the Coupe de France winner) qualifies for the Conference League playoff round
  • The 16th-place team plays a relegation playoff to avoid going down
  • The teams finishing 17th and 18th are relegated to Ligue 2

A lot is riding on France's top league, which is exactly why Ligue 1 betting is some of the most popular action every week at top sportsbooks among soccer bettors.

How Do You Make Good Predictions and Bet on Ligue 1 Matches?

Ligue 1 Strategies

Landing a winning Ligue 1 prediction comes down to knowing the league well, along with good betting habits.

SportyTrader has covered Ligue 1 for years, and here are our top tips for making smart predictions:

  • Check overall team form in Ligue 1
  • Track the form of Ligue 1's star players
  • Know who's missing from each Ligue 1 squad
  • Factor in the psychological context around each Ligue 1 matchup
  • Study the latest French league stats

Our editorial team considers these 5 tips among the most important for making Ligue 1 predictions, though they're far from the only factors worth considering. We've broken each one down below.

Check Overall Team Form in Ligue 1

Ligue 1 Betting Tips

The first step in making a reliable Ligue 1 prediction is checking each team's recent run of results for the match you're looking at for your soccer prediction. Say PSG is facing Lens, but hasn't won in 3 weeks, while Lens is unbeaten in 15 matches. Despite PSG's favorite status, the safer bet might actually be double chance draw-or-Lens. A team in good form should always take priority in your Ligue 1 bets.

On that note, it's worth stressing that recent scores alone don't tell the whole story, actual performance matters too. Possession, Expected Goals (xG), shots conceded, shots on target, fouls committed and drawn, all of it matters. Remember, a team can suffer an unexpected loss in a match where they were simply unlucky.

Track the Form of Ligue 1's Star Players

Just as you need to check overall team form for your Ligue 1 predictions, you'll also want to zoom in on the individual form of each team's star players. Say a club's top scorer hasn't found the net in 10 matches, or their usually reliable goalkeeper has made a couple of high-profile blunders. That kind of dip in form matters when predicting how a match might play out.

Keep in mind that a Ligue 1 team can often lean heavily on one or two key players, and when those players are off their game, results can suffer as a result.

Know Who's Missing from Each Ligue 1 Squad

Ligue 1 Betting Tips, Absent Players

Building on the last point, it's always worth checking the injury and absence list ahead of a Ligue 1 weekend. Whether it's injury, suspension, or simply being left out by the coach, a missing key player can have a real impact on a team's results.

Is the captain suspended? Is the usual center-back pairing unavailable due to injury? Has the top scorer been benched for disciplinary reasons? Stay cautious, and don't put too much money on a Ligue 1 pick without checking for that kind of news first. It could save you from an unpleasant surprise.

Factor in the Psychological Context Around Each Ligue 1 Matchup

Another good habit for Ligue 1 predictions: consider the mental and emotional context surrounding the match you're betting on. A few things to weigh here: rivalry history between the two clubs, pre-match comments in the media, a recent tense head-to-head, or high stakes riding on the result. Anything that could weigh on a team mentally is worth factoring in.

If you're a fan of over 2.5 goals bets in Ligue 1, for example, be cautious with high-pressure matchups (relegation battles late in the season, local derbies), which tend to produce fewer goals. If a team has lost 6 straight to their upcoming opponent, that's also worth thinking twice about before backing them, since that kind of losing streak can weigh on a team mentally. There are plenty of scenarios like these worth digging into (our expert handicappers factor them into their weekly Ligue 1 predictions).

Study the Latest French League Stats

Ligue 1 Betting Tips, Know Stats

Last but not least, our fifth big tip: always dig into each club's stats. Knowing the numbers helps you make sharper predictions and bet like a pro on alternative markets (total goals, exact score, match result, highest-scoring half, and more).

Say a team has hit "over 2.5 goals" in 80% of their Ligue 1 matches so far this season. That could be worth backing again this weekend. That's just one example of what digging into the stats can reveal. Don't hesitate to take advantage of a sportsbook bonus to try out a few of these bets.

To wrap up these key tips, know that our editorial team factors all of this into every Ligue 1 prediction we make, along with about a dozen other data points behind the scenes.

Simply checking our Ligue 1 match predictions gives you a reliable overview of every matchday. Make it a habit to check our picks before every Ligue 1 weekend.

What Not to Do With Your Ligue 1 Predictions

If you want to succeed with your Ligue 1 picks, there are some habits worth cutting out entirely.

Here's what we strongly recommend avoiding when making a Ligue 1 prediction:

  • Skipping the analysis on the Ligue 1 match you're betting on
  • Betting on a club's reputation alone
  • Betting on the shortest odds without a real reason
  • Betting on a Ligue 1 match with nothing on the line late in the season
  • Trying to chase back losses after a losing Ligue 1 bet
  • Betting on boosted odds without doing your own analysis
  • Repeatedly betting on your favorite team out of loyalty

Every week, plenty of bettors, beginners and veterans alike, fall into these traps and lose money more easily than they should by sticking to one of these habits. Make sure you don't make the same mistakes with Ligue 1 this season.

Ligue 1 Stats You Need to Know for Your Predictions

Ligue 1 Stats

Landing more winning Ligue 1 bets also comes down to knowing the French league's key stats.

Here are the numbers worth keeping in mind for your Ligue 1 picks, based on the most recent completed season:

  • Home wins: 46%
  • Draws: 24%
  • Away wins: 30%
  • Average goals per match: 2.83
  • Over 0.5 goals: 92%
  • Under 0.5 goals: 8%
  • Over 1.5 goals: 73%
  • Under 1.5 goals: 27%
  • Over 2.5 goals: 53%
  • Under 2.5 goals: 47%
  • Over 3.5 goals: 33%
  • Under 3.5 goals: 67%
  • Over 4.5 goals: 17%
  • Under 4.5 goals: 83%
  • 15-minute window with the most goals: 76th-90th minute (25%)
  • Percentage of goals scored in the first half: 43%
  • Percentage of goals scored in the second half: 57%
  • Average goals scored by the home team: 1.59
  • Average goals scored by the away team: 1.24
  • Both teams to score: yes: 51%
  • Average shots per match: 24.88
  • Win by 2+ goals (spread): 36.9% of matches
  • Exact score 0-0: 7.5% of matches
  • Exact score 1-1: 9.5% of matches
  • Most common scoreline: 1-0 or 0-1 (19.6% of matches)

For your Ligue 1 bets, lean toward "over 1.5 goals" and "over 2.5 goals" picks. Last season saw a healthy goals-per-match average, with over bets cashing more often than not. Ligue 1 might not be the flashiest league in the world, but it still ranks among the highest for goal-scoring on average.

We'd also recommend leaning toward home wins, a bet that cashed 46% of the time last season. Draws were relatively rare (just 24%), while away wins actually came in above that mark. Solid Ligue 1 odds are out there on these moneyline bets.

Circling back to goals, as with most leagues, the second half produces more scoring than the first, and the final 15 minutes see the most goals of any stretch. Here too, you'll find some solid value in the odds.

Lastly, don't be afraid to try a few exact-score bets. Often offered at big odds, these can be a fun way to pick up some extra winnings, even if nothing's ever guaranteed.
