Seeking some payback, the Houston Astros will start left-handed pitcher Framber Vasquez against the Colorado Rockies in Game 2 of their series on Wednesday at Dalkin Park.
The Astros suffered their second straight loss after bowing to the lowly Rockies 1-6 in Tuesday’s Game 1. After scoring 26 runs in three games, Houston could only come up with three runs in their next two games, as the offense went through another period of futility. Over the last five games, the Astros have maintained a 4.09 ERA and averaged 5.8 runs per game on a .263 batting average.
Meanwhile, the Rockies snapped a four-game losing streak with a strong showing on both ends. Colorado, which averages 2.4 runs per game in their last five games, delivered six runs and held the Astros to one run and six hits. The Rockies announced two weeks ago that they had shut down designated hitter and former MVP Kris Bryant for the rest of the season due to a back injury.

Fearless Forecast: The Astros will cover the spread in Game 2.
Despite horrendous numbers (0-5, 6.14 ERA) from Framber Vasquez in his last five starts, the Astros should take care of their business in Game 2, beating the Rockies just enough to cover a -1.5-run handicap. Although some have concerns about this pick, especially now that Vasquez is going through a pitching slump, I 100 percent believe that the Astros' lefty will put up a strong mound appearance against the Rockies, who are averaging 3.6 runs per game against lefties this season. Moreover, Vasquez has won his last three starts against Colorado, giving up an average of 2.0 earned runs per game.
Chase Dollander, the Rockies’ projected starter on Wednesday, is also coming in with wobbly form after surrendering seven earned runs and nine hits over 3.2 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 21. The Astros have defeated the Rockies in seven of their last 10 meetings, averaging 5.7 runs while limiting Colorado to 3.50 runs per game. The Astros won by at least two runs in six of those seven victories, reinforcing my belief that the home team will come away with a comfortable win in Game 2.
