The San Francisco Giants, listed as +104 underdogs, will go for their fourth win in a row against the Chicago Cubs in Wednesday’s Game 2 at Oracle Park.
The Giants carried over the momentum from their back-to-back wins over the Milwaukee Brewers into Tuesday’s series opener against the Cubs. Future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander threw for six innings, surrendering two earned runs and seven hits to earn his first career win since joining the Giants. Third baseman Matt Chapman delivered a two-run blast in the 6th inning to cap a 4-0 run by the Giants in the fifth and sixth innings. The win improved the Giants’ regular-season record to 64-68, third in the NL West behind World Series contenders LA Dodgers (75-57) and the San Diego Padres (74-58).
As for the Cubs, the loss increased the Brewers’ lead on them to 6.5 games with roughly a month left in the regular season. The Cubs, who dominated the Los Angeles Angels in the previous series, are 2-6 in their last eight meetings with the Giants. It would be interesting to see how Chicago will bounce back from this setback in Game 2.

Our San Francisco Giants vs Chicago Cubs Prediction
The Giants will beat the Cubs again behind another masterful performance from their pitching staff.
San Francisco is 4-1 in its last 5 games when playing at home against the Chicago Cubs. Moreover, the Giants will be starting a lefty in Game 2. Carson Whisenhunt (1-1, 4,91 ERA) hopes he can neutralize a Cubs offense, which is producing 1.7 runs per game in the last five games against left-handed pitchers. In their last three meetings with the Cubs, San Francisco has averaged 6.3 runs per game and held Chicago to 5.0 runs per game.
The Chicago Cubs are 2-6 in their last 8 games against San Francisco and 1-4 in their last 5 games when playing on the road against the said team. Colin Rea is an excellent pitcher with a 3-2 record and a 3.55 ERA in his last five starts. However, he has lost his last two faceoffs with the Giants, yielding a total of 15 runs over 9.0 innings pitched. Although Rea can put together a strong mound appearance anytime, I just can’t trust him to put up terrific numbers against the team that has given him headaches in the past. Moreover, Rea cannot allow the Giants to take a significant lead into the late innings because their bullpen is only giving up 1.98 ERA in the last five games.
Our betting prediction for the Chicago Cubs vs. the San Francisco Giants: the Giants will win.
