The 2025-2026 season was disappointing for both the Detroit Lions and the New Orleans Saints. The Saints finished with a 6-11 mark and while the expectations were low, the 6 wins was still a disappointment. For the Lions, they had high hopes but failed to live up to the hype. They finished 9-8 and missed out on the postseason. On Sunday afternoon, these two teams will kickoff their 2025-2026 seasons as the Lions will play hosts.
This season, the hype in Detroit is back to a fever pitch and many expect them to make a large improvement in the win column this season. They have arguably the most versatile and explosive running backs in the league in Jahmyr Gibbs. He will get an even larger load this season as they lost David Montgomery to Houston in the offseason. However, Gibbs on the ground and Amon-Ra St. Brown through the air is enough weapons for any offense.
The Saints are not expected to be a true contender this season. However, they did bring in Travis Etienne from Jacksonville to make up for the aging and injury-ridden Alvin Kamara. Tyler Shough is set to be the starter and should provide some juice and youth to the offense. He will have one of the top receivers in the league to throw to in Chris Olave. Brandon Staley made some additions to the defense and they should be improved from last season
