The Los Angeles Chargers will try to get their first win of the season this week when they host the Houston Texans (2-5, 2-1 Away) at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. Fans can follow the action on CBS once the game gets underway as part of the late afternoon slate at 4:05 p.m. EST.
Both teams have easily been among the most disappointing in the league so far this season. They each had legitimate Super Bowl hopes coming into the season. Houston’s defense has underperformed, and they still can’t run the ball. After how well the team played in the win against Jacksonville, fans had hope once again. But they lost in overtime to the Giants, falling to 2-5.
After leading the league last season with 17.4 points per game allowed, the Texans have allowed an average of 24.3. Five of seven opponents have scored 20+ points.
With Mike McDaniel, a respected offensive mind, taking over as offensive coordinator, fans had high expectations coming into the season. But the Chargers offense has instead become one of the worst in the NFL. Through seven games, LA is averaging 14 points a game and has scored 20+ points just once.

It is hard to root for either team because both have dramatically underperformed this season. Despite Houston’s poor defense, I wouldn’t expect much from a Chargers offense that has scored 15 points total in the last two games. However, I’m not confident we can trust Houston to cover and/or score enough to send the final over the total.
