Canada and Qatar have in common that, in Group B of the World Cup, they not only drew 1-1, but both clubs earned points for the first time in World Cup history. However, for the Canadians—World Cup hosts making their debut in Ontario—the draw left a bitter taste, as they were considered favorites to beat Bosnia. For Qatar, the draw felt like a victory, as their late own goal dealt a significant blow to the group favorite, Switzerland, and was an undeserved reward for Lopetegui's team, who had a poor performance against the Swiss.
The group stage continues, and at BC Place, the Canadians are favored to defeat the Qataris. The only previous meeting between these teams was in 2022, a friendly that Canada won 2-0.
Regarding Canada, the press highlighted the North American team's lack of effectiveness in front of goal during their match against Bosnia. This was remarkable, and that's why Cyle Larin's entrance was so vital, as he only needed two minutes off the bench to score the equalizer. The Qataris, on the other hand, had luck and resilience to stay within one goal of the relentless Swiss attack. Goalkeeper Mahmoud, despite conceding the penalty, was crucial with five saves and celebrated with a prayer of thanks for the draw that keeps the Qataris very much alive in Group B.

Canada - Qatar: Form Analysis
Canada then ended their streak of six consecutive defeats in World Cup group stages with the draw against Bosnia. But they not only have a more than capable generation of footballers, but also a very passionate fanbase eager for their first World Cup victory. It seems more than achievable, as Qatar inexplicably managed a 1-1 draw against Switzerland despite having only 32% possession, an xG of 0.60, and conceding 10 corner kicks.
If Qatar had any merit in Santa Clara, it was leveling the playing field in the final 10 minutes. However, tactically, Lopetegui's team seemed too entrenched in their own half, with a terrible anxiety to play out from the back quickly, resulting in the ball often returning to the Swiss. Even so, the Qatari press hailed the draw as historic; it certainly surpassed Qatar's embarrassing performance at their 2022 World Cup, where they lost all three of their group matches.
But when all is said and done, Qatar has now earned a point against the group favorite, Switzerland. Canada displayed better football than Qatar, but at times they also seemed stifled, not only by the combative Bosnian defense, but also by the stifling Ontario heat. Vancouver's BC Place seems like a more welcoming venue for the Canadians.

Canada & Qatar Squad Analysis
Jonathan David, of Juventus, is one of Canada's most prominent figures. He played 61 minutes in the first group stage match, contributing a few ball recoveries; however, the Bosnians closed down the spaces for him, and he couldn't have a greater impact on the game.
Meanwhile, Alphonso Davies, the well-known Bayern Munich defender, has been plagued by recurring injuries, but before the World Cup, coach Jesse Marsch spoke of having him available, if at all, for the second match, precisely against Qatar.
A goal that buys a starting spot?
Marsch has to decide whether it's worth starting Cyle Larin; At least that's what the Canadian press is asking for, after he responded with the crucial goal coming off the bench. The same question is being raised about Promise David, who assisted Larin on the goal. In any case, Eustaquio is expected to start again in midfield, as is Johnston, the Celtic full-back, who praised the support the Canadian fans are providing at the World Cup they are co-hosting.

Our Canada vs Qatar Prediction
Football isn't always fair, and unpredictability has taken hold in Group B, but the positive feeling Canada left behind is reassuring ahead of the match against Qatar, which, we could say without meaning to offend anyone, practically stumbled upon a late equalizer.
Furthermore, the setting changes: Canada will now play at BC Place, their usual home ground, as they did for the last World Cup qualifiers, the same home of the women's national team and the dominant Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS. It's the undisputed home of Canadian football, and if the team plays with the dynamism they usually display and isn't slowed down by the heat, the Qataris will suffer if Lopetegui's team doesn't improve on their previous performance.
Our prediction for Canada vs Qatar is: Canada -1.5.
