Most of the EPL action takes place on Wednesday, with just one fixture going down on Thursday, but it’s a big one. At Emirates Stadium, Arsenal and Liverpool will clash in what is a huge game for both. If the Gunners get the job done, at the very least, they’ll maintain their six-point advantage at the top of the tree. There’s a long way to go, of course, but it’s looking more and more likely that Mikel Arteta’s men will clinch the EPL title, and a win here would only strengthen that suspicion.
For the Reds, there will be no successful title defense. That’s abundantly clear. Arne Slot’s men have been miles off the pace in that respect, so much so that the best they can hope for at this stage is a solid top-four finish, which does remain a possibility. The 2024/25 EPL champions currently sit in fourth position, three points clear of nearest challengers Chelsea.

Arsenal - Liverpool: Form Analysis
As far as recent form is concerned, the Gunners have done everything right and are not easy to criticize. Last time out, despite a few hiccups, they got the job done in league-leader fashion, grinding out a 3-2 win against Bournemouth. Arteta’s men, who suffered a minor blip when losing to Aston Villa back in early December, have now won each of their last five league games.
It looked like the men from Merseyside would clinch all three points at Craven Cottage on Sunday, but they kissed the win goodbye when allowing Fulham’s Harrison Reed to advance and shoot unchallenged deep into stoppage time.
In contrast, the Reds, who have tightened up after a shocking run back in October and November, when they lost no less than nine out of 12 games in all competitions, do not go into Thursday’s fixture off the back of a win. It looked like the men from Merseyside would clinch all three points at Craven Cottage on Sunday, but they kissed the win goodbye when allowing Fulham’s Harrison Reed to advance and shoot unchallenged deep into stoppage time. They now search for a first win in three.

Arsenal & Liverpool Squad Analysis
The Gunners do have a couple of defensive absentees at present. Riccardo Calafiori remains sidelined having been out for three games, while Christhian Mosquera is another player who has been nursing an injury for a while. Neither player will feature on Thursday.
Fortunately, Cody Gakpo is fit and ready to roll having returned with a goal last time out.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah continues to fly the flag for Egypt at the African Cup of Nations and will thus not feature at Emirates Stadium, nor will Alexander Isak, who recently suffered a broken leg. There are further problems of an offensive nature for Arne Slot, who is also expected to be without the services of Hugo Ekitike. The French forward recently suffered a hamstring injury and is thus out of action. Fortunately, Cody Gakpo is fit and ready to roll having returned with a goal last time out.

Our Arsenal vs Liverpool Prediction
With high-profile games of this nature, it's easy to assume that the goals will fly in, but let's face it, when these two met earlier in the season, there were no fireworks, with very little created at either end. The visitors will surely be intent on tightening up, while we know that the hosts are happy to take the low-key approach in games such as this.
We also shouldn't ignore the fact that both teams have played an awful lot of soccer lately, while the visitors are missing key offensive players. In other words, a less than overly exciting and relatively low-scoring encounter looks a little more likely than the early odds suggest.
Our Arsenal vs Liverpool Pick: Under 2.5 Goals.
