The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to bounce back after a loss in their opener tonight when they host the Washington Capitals.
The Lightning fell into a 3-0 hole early in the 2nd period against the New York Rangers in their opener. They put one in to cut it to 3-1 but allowed 2 more unanswered goals to take a 5-1 loss. Nikita Kucherov was their lone goal scorer, and Andrei Vasilevskiy was only able to make 20 saves on the 24 shots he faced in the loss. The Lightning were 0-7 on the power play and that will need to change if they plan on being successful this season.
Washington is coming into this game after a win in their opener. They face the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes. Alex Tuch scored twice in the 1st period and helped build a 4-0 lead early in the 2nd period. Logan Thompson was able to stop 31 of the 33 shots and helped the Capitals pick up the 5-2 road win. Despite being outshot 33-27, the Capitals were efficient and were able to pick up a goal on just 2 power plays. If they can keep up that efficiency, they will be tough.
