The Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens will meet tonight in Pittsburgh. Both Eastern Conference teams have begun their seasons with a win, but one will walk away with a loss tonight.
Pittsburgh opened the season on the road against the rival Philadelphia Flyers. It was not much of a game as the Penguins dominated in nearly every facet of the game. They jumped to a 2-0 lead after the 1st period and extended it with 3 more unanswered goals in the 2nd. In the 3rd, the Flyers seemed to roll over and allowed 2 more goals for a 7-0 final score. 6 different Penguins registered a goal with only Nick Robertson scoring two. Filip Hallander was one of those goal scorers, but also added 2 assists to lead the team in points with 3. Arturs Silovs stopped all 19 shots he faced and picked up the shutout win.
Unlike the Penguins, the Canadiens had a tougher time picking up their win in their opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After allowing the 1st goal, the Canadiens tied it going into the 2nd period. There, they took the lead on a Zachary Boiduc goal. Alexandre Carrier extended the lead to 3-1 late in the 3rd. William Nylander cut the lead to 1, but Jakub Dobes was able to stop the remaining shots and give the Canadiens the 3-2 win.
