One of the youngest top prospects in UFC history will get to headline his 1st UFC Fight Night this Saturday night. Raul Rosas Jr. will take on Raoni Barcelos in a battle of the bantamweights.
Rosas Jr., the 21-year-old, is getting a massive opportunity in this fight. He gets to face a top-10 opponent in Barcelos and do so in the main event of the card. Barcelos is currently ranked #8 in the division and risks falling outside the top 15 if he were to lose this bout to Rosas Jr. For Rosas Jr., he is coming into this fight having won his last 5 fights. His latest victory came over Rob Font back in early March of this year. After picking up 8 of his first 9 victories by finish, Rosas Jr. has now won by decision in each of his last 3 fights.
Barcelos is also coming into this fight on a 5-fight win streak. The #8 bantamweight in the world is risking his ranking against a fighter who is 18 years younger than he. Similar to Rosas Jr., the majority of his recent fights have all gone to a decision. However, this is the first 5-round bout for each of these fighters inside the UFC. While there could be a tendency for Rosas to try to push the pace early due to his younger aggressiveness, we do not believe that will be the case. He knows how much this opportunity can change the trajectory of his career, and the last thing he will want to do is make an early mistake and allow the veteran Barcelos to put him in a gassed-out start for the championship rounds. We expect this one to be a grind-it-out type of battle and ultimately end in a decision.
