One of the most controversial decisions of the offseason was when Tottenham, despite winning their first trophy in years under Ange Postecoglou, decided to dismiss the Australian manager anyway. Starting Tuesday, Spurs host Villarreal in London to kick off another Champions League season, seeking to rekindle the glory of their 2019 finalist campaign.
Earlier this season, Tottenham played a very decent match against PSG in the European Super Cup, a match that slipped away at the last minute in a penalty shootout, with defender van de Ven scoring. The same Dutchman scored the final goal of three in the London derby rout against West Ham.
Villarreal will have a tough task beating Tottenham; the Londoners haven't lost any of their last 20 home matches in European competition. The Yellow Submarine is coming off a La Liga game against another Champions League team, Atlético de Madrid, last weekend, losing 0-2 in the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, the Danish coach's approach has been to consolidate their lines, disrupting opponents' play by stealing the ball in midfield, as he did several times against PSG in the Super Cup. Swedish teenager Lucas Bergvall stood out in Spurs' weekend rout, contributing a goal and an assist. Xavi Simons also had his first excellent game in a Spurs shirt since joining from RB Leipzig.
