Four days after its defeat on the sixth day of the Paulista championship, Santos welcomes São Paulo for the second day of Serie A with a score to settle. Surprised by newly promoted Chapecoense, Santos will be looking for its first three points, while São Paulo, buoyed by its victory against the defending champion, will be looking to build on its momentum. Kickoff is at midnight on Thursday!
A historic Brazilian club, Santos, long believed it would be relegated last season, flirting with the relegation zone. A strong finish to the championship allowed the club to stay up, ultimately finishing 12th with 47 points. However, upon its return to Serie A, Santos lost its first away game, conceding four goals against Chapecoense, which reflected the club's recurring defensive weaknesses. Another followed this first defeat on the sixth day of the Paulista championship (2-0 against São Paulo). To get back on track, Santos can count on its home ground, where it remains unbeaten in eight games in all competitions!
For its part, São Paulo has started the season with a bang! On the first day, the club defeated reigning champions Flamengo 2-1 thanks to goals from Luciano (61') and Danielzinho (71'). The victory puts them level with Botafogo at the top of the provisional standings. But away games remain a problem for São Paulo...
