The 19th matchday of Ligue 1 kicks off this Friday with a clash between AJ Auxerre and Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps. It's a clash of extremes to start the new weekend in the French championship. The home side are in serious danger at the start of the second half of the season. They are stuck in the relegation zone, in 17th place in the table. After three consecutive defeats, Christophe Pélissier's team are already six points adrift of the first non-relegation spot. It will not be easy for Auxerre to reassure themselves this weekend.

PSG's ambition is to quickly regain control of Ligue 1. Until now, RC Lens has been dominating the league, somewhat to everyone's surprise. However, the club from the French capital is in second place, just one point behind the leaders from the Pas-de-Calais region. With the Sang et Or not playing until the following day, and facing a tough match against Marseille, PSG can put pressure on them by winning on Friday evening. This would also allow Luis Enrique's men to build confidence ahead of a decisive final Champions League group stage match against Newcastle United.
