After just one day off for Christmas, the African Cup of Nations gets back underway on Friday, and we kick off another four-game day with a clash between Angola and Zimbabwe. Both teams performed well during the first round of games, with the Angolans putting up a serious fight against the South Africans, while Zimbabwe didn’t exactly lay down against the Egyptians.
Patrice Beaumelle’s men certainly didn’t take a back-footed approach on gameday one, instead adopting a cavalier style that saw them venture forward with pace on many occasions. Having gone into the break deservedly level at 1-1, they were downed by a Lyle Foster stunner in the second half, eventually losing by two goals to one.
For Marian Marinica’s men, gameday one ended in stoppage-time agony. Having taken the lead against Egypt, a lead that they held going into half time, the Warriors conceded twice in the second half to leave the field in Agadir with nothing to show for their efforts. Can they now pick up an improved result?

Angola - Zimbabwe: Form Analysis
As touched on above, there really was little wrong with how the Black Sable Antelopes approached their task against South Africa. They were positive, they were direct, they used the pace and power of Zito Luvumbo out wide to good effect, while they also looked very dangerous from set pieces. If they can deliver a similar performance here, then there’s no reason why they cannot get a positive result against a Zimbabwe team that has now won just once since early June.

While the Angolans really pushed the South Africans hard, the Warriors went for a more smash-and-grab approach against Mohamed Salah and friends, scoring against the run of play early on, before attempting to hold what they had. Realistically, their defensive approach was their downfall, as the Egyptians completely dominated the ball in the second half, so much so that it was only a matter of time before they got on top, especially after Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush equalized after 64 minutes. They’ll probably need to be more positive to get a result against Angola, let’s be honest.

Angola & Zimbabwe Squad Analysis
The Angolans are expected to line up much as they did against South Africa, which means that we should once again see Pisa’s M’bala Nzola partner Gelson Dala up top, with the lively Zito Luvumbo, who also plays in the Italian Serie A, supporting from a position on the wide left. Gameday one scorer Show is once again expected to anchor the midfield, sitting in front of a three-man defense containing Lyon’s Clinton Mata.
The Warriors probably won’t change too much, but they may be looking for a little more offensive power
The Warriors probably won’t change too much, but they may be looking for a little more offensive power, which means that coach Marinica is likely to bring in Tawanda Maswanhise, who has been in great form for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership this season. Young Wolves winger Tawanda Chirewa is another offensive option, as is experienced forward Macauley Bonne, who came on as a half-time substitute against Egypt.

Our Angola vs Zimbabwe Prediction
Let's face it, both teams looked weak at the back during the first round of games, while both teams need to go for it, which should promote an open game in Marrakech, a game in which at least one goal for each team looks a little more likely than the early odds suggest.
