Even beyond the title race, the end of this Premier League season promises to be enthralling.

Manchester City is poised to win the Premier League again. Arsenal’s demise under pressure has set up an epic title race, which is destined to go to the wire.

If Aston Villa win the Europa League, there’s a chance the Premier League will have six Champions League spots. Twelfth-placed Fulham are only three points behind sixth-placed Chelsea.

One point separates Spurs in 18th and West Ham in 17th ahead of the Hammers’ Monday night clash with Crystal Palace.

Premier League teams have five or six matches remaining (Palace are the exception with seven). Burnley and Wolves have nothing to play for as their fate is all but sealed. Nottingham Forest are not yet safe. Leeds, in 15th on 39 points, are the only other team with nothing at stake.

Sitting in 14th, Newcastle are just eight points off sixth. It’s been a wildly disappointing season for the Magpies, but even so, they could yet qualify for European football.

Beyond what has the potential to be an all-time title race, this Premier League season is beautifully poised for a dramatic conclusion.

High Stakes

Stakes are high across the Premier League ahead of a handful of make-up games this week. Motivation is a key factor when analyzing EPL tips at this time of year.

The long-term outlook of clubs could swing on the next few weeks of action. Champions League qualification brings tens of millions in revenue, which can help a club adjust into an upward trajectory. Relegation for Spurs, West Ham, or Forest would be extremely damaging in the short- and medium-term.

Each place in the Premier League carries more prize money than the spot below. Even the teams that don’t push themselves into the European spots are playing for things at this time of year, but it’s all the more entertaining when every match has something at stake.

The closing weeks of a season can be riddled with dead rubbers. The 2025-26 campaign is different – as it stands, Burnley’s trip to Leeds on May 1 and Wolves hosting Burnley on the final day of the season are the only matches where teams have nothing to play for,

Minor Relevance

Sancho

You could say Manchester United and Aston Villa have wrapped their seasons up. Neither team will drop out of the top five (10-point advantage over sixth).

Villa’s league position has a significant impact on how many teams qualify for the Champions League and other contintental competitions, however, so how Unai Emery’s side fares is significant for the rest of the league. Villa are level on points with Manchester United and only three ahead of Liverpool.

There’s also the small matter of the outcome of the FA Cup and the three UEFA competitions. It’s possible the top nine Premier League teams will qualify for continental competition – three points currently separate sixth and 12th, creating an extraordinary battle for the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League spots in 2026-27.

Rare Scenario

The end of this Premier League season is unusual in a lot of ways. An eight-point gap between sixth and 14th at this time of year is almost unheard of.

Per BBC Sport, the average gap between those places at this time of year is 16.5 points.

The introduction of the Conference League has naturally added another layer but so has the possibility that English clubs win the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.

A combination of a very fluid league table and significant uncertainty over the number of European places opens up end-of-season chaos never seen before.

A title race barrelling towards a final-day decider, a condensed mid-table with European qualification at stake, and three big clubs trying to avoid the final relegation spot. Cherish the remainder of this Premier League season – it’s rare the final month of the campaign offers us so much.
