It will be a battle between the bottom of the NFC East on Sunday when the New York Giants (2-11) host the Washington Commanders (3-10). This will be the rematch for their season-opening meeting, when the Commanders won handily 21-6. That matchup featured Russell Wilson versus Jayden Daniels, but it will not be the case as Jaxson Dart has since taken over for Wilson, and Marcus Mariota has replaced the injured Daniels.
New York is on a 7-game losing streak and has been riddled with injuries to all their main offensive weapons. That said, all 7 losses have come to teams that are likely to make the playoffs this season. This will be the 1st matchup against a non-likely playoff opponent. While the results have not been great, Jaxson Dart has looked like he will be the future QB for the Giants.
The Commanders, like the Giants, have been on an extended losing streak. Their total is up to 8 losses, but they have lost to two teams in Miami and Minnesota that will not be in the postseason. Marcus Mariota been serviceable in his backup role to Daniels, who has struggled all season with injuries. They will also be without veteran Zach Ertz, who sustained a season-ending injury in their last game.
With both teams firmly seated on the “struggle-bus", this matchup is likely to determine who will finish last in the division.
