One of the matchups in the second round of the US Open men's draw pits Stefanos Tsitsipas against Daniel Altmaier. This year has not been easy for the Greek player. He has not made it past the second round in the first three Grand Slam tournaments of the season. Having dropped to 26th in the ATP rankings, the 28-year-old has won only 21 of his 39 matches in 2025. The Athens native is hoping to get back on track at Flushing Meadows. He made a successful debut against Alexander Müller, despite losing the first set (4-6, 6-0, 6-1, 7-6). He will again be the favorite in his next match, but it will not be an easy task.
Daniel Altmaier has not necessarily been brilliant on hard courts in 2025, with only 13 wins in 30 matches. The German nevertheless made a strong impression in his Grand Slam debut, winning a long battle against Hamad Medjedovic (7-5, 6-7, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4). Currently ranked 54th in the ATP rankings, he has no intention of letting up, especially as he will be under no pressure whatsoever in this match. He has equaled his best performance at the US Open, having never made it past the second round. He will certainly be looking to stand up to the 26th seed in this American Grand Slam.
