The Toronto Maple Leafs will attempt to extend their point streak to six games on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks at the Scotiabank Arena.
Toronto began a 4-0-1 run late last month with an impressive 7-2 road win over the Pittsburgh Penguins and will take the ice on Thursday night fresh off their first shutout of the season. With Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll on the shelf, Dennis Hildeby stepped up on Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, stopping 29 pucks in a 2-0 victory.
The Maple Leafs haven't allowed more than two goals in any of their last five games and must be full of confidence ahead of Thursday's clash against Macklin Celebrini's crew.
Celebrini has been among the NHL's top scorers this season, but he has been inconsistent recently, and the team has started to struggle. San Jose has dropped three of its five games in December, scoring only once in each of the losses.
The Sharks clearly need Celebrini to return to top form to regain some consistency. Before December, Celebrini had been held off the score sheet just six times this season. This month, he has gone pointless three times already.
