Portland Timbers fans were ready to wave the white flag, but two things have happened recently that suggest the Timbers' season is salvageable and far from over.
Before the long break for the World Cup, the Timbers had lost to Inter Miami and the San Jose Earthquakes. That was more than enough reason for the team to part ways with head coach Phil Neville; Cassidy took over on an interim basis while rumors suggest that Martí Cifuentes could be the club's new manager. However, while those negotiations are underway, the Timbers returned from the World Cup break in top form, thrashing the Seattle Sounders 5-1 at Lumen Field with two goals and a stellar performance from Venezuelan striker Kevin Kelsy.
Now the Timbers will host FC Dallas, who are having a commendable season. In fact, with two penalty goals, one from Farrington and another from Moreno, they were able to defeat the Colorado Rapids. This was the third consecutive away win for the Texas team.
