Two slumping teams clash in the NHL on Saturday as the Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Both teams have lost five games in a row, and the Rangers haven't even picked up a single point during their slide. Even the team's outstanding road form has them abandoned, as last Saturday's embarrassing 10-2 defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins was the Rangers' fourth consecutive loss away from home.
The Flyers lost momentum after back-to-back losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning, then had a tough two-game road trip earlier this week, losing 5-2 to the Buffalo Sabers and 6-3 to the Pittsburgh Penguins. This slump has left Philadelphia fifth in the Metropolitan Division, and Rick Tocchet's team must be eager to reignite its playoff push this weekend.
The two teams go head-to-head for the second time this season. In a rare home victory, the Rangers beat the Flyers 5-4 in a shootout on Dec. 20. The team showed great character in the game, coming back from 3-1 and 4-2 deficits.
Repeating the success will be difficult for the Rangers on Saturday, as Mike Sullivan is currently without two key players. Defenseman Adam Fox has missed four games with a lower-body injury, while goaltender Igor Shesterkin is also on the shelf due to a lower-body injury.
