New York wasted no time pulling ahead yesterday, scoring a pair in the first and leading 6-0 after four innings. Pittsburgh’s offense woke up late in the game, scoring two in the seventh and two more in the ninth, but fell short of a comeback.
Bubba Chandler is scheduled to get the start for the Pirates. He is 4-8 in 22 appearances (21 starts) with a 4.49 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. At home, he is 2-3 in nine starts with a 4.81 ERA and a .250 OBA. He lasted just four innings in his last home start (July 28 vs. Arizona), giving up seven hits and five runs (three earned).
As for the Mets, New York is scheduled to give Robert Stock his second start of the season. He made his season debut earlier in the month (8/2) vs. the Marlins and pitched five innings, giving up three hits and one run in the process. It was his first start in the Big Leagues since 2021.

Chandler has not been good this season, and while Stock was solid in his first start since 2021, he only lasted five innings. We have no idea what kind of pitcher he is right now. But if the Mets can get five solid innings out of him again (which is possible against a lineup hitting .201 over the last week), they’ll be fine handing the ball over to one of the better bullpens in the league (3.78 ERA). Chandler is not going to slow the Mets lineup (.263 over the last week) down; his bullpen (4.24 ERA) is not going to be any better. Take the Mets to win.
