Grant Dawson (24-3-1) and Nurullo Aliev (12-0-0) will lock horns in the UFC lightweight division on Saturday at the Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi. Grant Dowson is a 32-year-old American who started his UFC journey in 2017. He has since participated in 16 fights, losing only on two occasions. The “KGD” is coming off a submission win over Mateusz Rebecki at UFC 328 to bounce back from his KO defeat against Manuel Torres. He’ll be keen to make it back-to-back wins as the -139 favorite.
Nurullo Aliev, on the other hand, will enter the Octagon as the -109 betting underdog as he seeks to protect his perfect record. The 25-year-old is among the most promising prospects in the division, having joined the franchise in September 2022. He has won all five of his UFC assignments, the latest being a decision win over Mike Davis in July this year. A win this Saturday could give the “Tajik Eagle” a shot against another big name in the division.

That aside, we expect this to be one of those boring matchups that will be decided by the judges. Dawson is a takedown artist who averages 3.58 takedowns per 15 minutes, with 39% accuracy. However, we think he could have a hard time finishing Nurullo, who has an excellent submission defense. The youngster has an average takedown defense rate of 80%, one of the highest in the UFC. This fight should go the distance with Dawson edging it.
