Spain takes on Germany in a FIBA Women's World Cup game on Friday, September 4, at Max-Schemeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany.
This is one of the most anticipated matchups between two strong teams. However, the Germans haven't actually won an official FIBA game against the Spaniards. When they last faced each other during the 2025 EuroBasket, Spain carved out a dominant 79-60 victory.
In that game, Spain didn't allow Germany to score above 17 points in each of the four quarters. Raquel Carrera led Spain with her efficient 20 points (64% FG), with Andrea Vilaro and Alba Torrens as the two other double-digit scorers.
Along with Carrera and Torrens, Spain will also lean on the 6-foot-3 Megan Gustafson. She is known for her inside scoring and rebounding, something that the Spaniards can definitely benefit from. Gustafson currently plays for the Portland Fire, where she is putting up career-high averages of 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds.
But, of course, the Germans are no pushovers. FIBA has them seventh in their power rankings. They have two stars on their team, namely Leonie Fiebich and Alexis Peterson.
Fiebich plays for the New York Liberty in the WNBA, averaging 10.2 points on a stellar 43.2% clip from the three-point line.
