Every Serie A team hits the field this Saturday in the penultimate round of the season. One of the earlier kick-offs involves a content Genoa hosting a wobbly AC Milan side that must win to hold onto the top four. With their recent performances, don’t be too surprised if a less intense meeting occurs than the early market suggests.

Since they’ve achieved a comfortable state where they no longer have to prove themselves, Genoa’s motivation seems to have diminished, especially compared to slightly earlier in the season, where points were crucial, and Genoa scored multiple goals fairly often. 

Recently, though, the hosts haven’t been displaying much vigor in front of goal, creating a pretty poor xG in their last three, resulting in zero goals scored. However, they haven’t conceded in their last two either, despite being away from home.

In their last home game, against relevantly-ranked Como, Genoa failed to net, producing an xG of just 0.60, and realistically didn’t give away too much despite the two goals allowed. In terms of the visitors, AC Milan are concluding the season in disappointing form, winning only one in their last six, scoring a total of just three goals.

The pressure is on for AC Milan, who have a couple of teams chasing them for that Champions League position. Allegri’s men have struggled to follow through in their most recent away games, not creating many shots at all in their last three, thus not generating many goals like they have in earlier parts of the season. 

The visitors haven’t coped well with this looming pressure, going three games without a win now in spite of two home matches. They’re facing a side that have virtually nothing to play for, meaning they won’t be motivated to push forwards at all, which also means AC Milan may have difficulties breaking Il Grifone down, like Fiorentina and Atalanta have in their last two.
