After dropping the first two sets, the Argentine flipped the script in the next three sets to pull off a bracket-busting stunner. Cerundolo has now won back-to-back five-setters after he edged Jan-Lennard Struff 5-7, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. He also swept Filip Misolic 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.

Alexander Blockx also barged into the third round of the 2026 US Open following a clinical four-set win over No.5 seed Flavio Cobolli 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2. The 21-year-old Blockx also dispatched Marco Trungelliti, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, and Tomas Barrios Vera, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

The Matchup: Blockx defeated Cerundolo 7-6, 6-2 in the round of 16 of the Madrid Masters.
