Division rivals, the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions, lock horns in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Bookmakers anticipate a tight ball game this Sunday at Lambeau Field, listing the home team as slight -130 favorites.

After losing their first preseason game to the New York Jets 10-30, the Packers rebounded with strong wins over the Indianapolis Colts 23-19 and the Seattle Seahawks 20-7 to finish their preseason schedule with a 2-1 record. It looks like this year’s Packers will still be a formidable defensive team. Boasting the 6th fewest points allowed in the NFL last season (19.9 points), the Packers hounded the Seahawks to just seven points in their final preseason games. The offense will only improve this year with Jordan Love aiming for his first Pro Bowl season after two productive seasons with the Packers.
The Lions finished the preseason with a 1-2 record after losing their last two exhibition matches against the Miami Dolphins 17-24 and the Houston Texans 7-26. Their only win came in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons 17-10. Quarterback Jared Goff looks to put the Lions in a position to win lots of games and perhaps contend for a Super Bowl title after they got upset by the Washington Commanders in the divisional playoffs last year.

Green Bay, which carries a 10-4 record in its last 14 games at home, is a solid moneyline pick. However, reports are circulating that starting quarterback Jordan Love might not be available for this Week 1 matchup because of a thumb injury.
