Sepúlveda scored two goals in less than three minutes, but neither that nor Cruz Azul's -120 favorite in their last match was enough to beat Atlas in their second game of the new Liga MX season. Particularly concerning was the performance of Colombian goalkeeper Kevin Mier against Atlas; he only managed to stop one of Atlas' four shots on goal in the previous match. However, Mier made five saves in the MLS All-Star Classic against Liga MX, in which Mier was a substitute, but which the American league won 3-1.
Meanwhile, Cruz Azul's management failed to finalize the signing of Luka Jovic, and reports indicate that Cruz Azul would be changing course and signing André Silva, signing a world-renowned player, as Pumas, Tigres, Monterrey, and León did last year.
