After a fantastic result against Portugal for DR Congo in the first fixture, they go again this Wednesday with another trying clash against a blooming Colombia side in Mexico.
The Colombians impressed during the first round of group games, especially offensively, as they played with intensity, creating some big chances, three of which they took. The DR Congo players also showed some offensive quality, and if they’d had just a little more conviction in the final third, they could have easily beaten a sluggish Portuguese team.
Looking at the early odds ahead of this one, ‘Both Teams to Score’ rates as a solid bet, especially with both teams arriving in decent offensive form.

There really wasn’t too much wrong with the way in which the Colombians got down to business last time out. Unlike many of the teams heavily fancied in the betting during the first round of group games, they were very proactive, and they took the game to their lower-ranked opponents, making use of their extra offensive power. They now need to repeat that effort.

You certainly wouldn’t say that DR Congo impressed as much as the Colombians did, but the Africans certainly performed well, digging deep to hold tight against a Portugal team stacked with offensive talent, before often using the ball well on the counter. As touched on above, if Sebastian Desabre’s men showed just a tiny bit more offensive belief, then they would’ve won the game.

Néstor Gabriel Lorenzo will have liked what he saw from his starting XI in Mexico City, where the Colombians were on the front foot for much of the contest. Luiz Diaz was particularly lively on the wing, while Daniel Munoz caused lots of problems with his marauding runs from full back. Both players should once again play key roles. Having scored as a substitute, Jaminton Campaz may start this game.
