Two teams that both tied during the opening round of group games will lock horns in the Canadian city of Vancouver on Sunday evening. As things stand, it’s wide open in Group G, so there’s everything still to play for.
Prior to their opening game, the New Zealanders were not fancied by the betting market, but that didn’t stop them holding the Iranians to a 2-2 tie in Los Angeles, where they twice were out in front thanks to Elijah Just, who scored in both halves. The Egyptians also hit the front against Belgium, before being pegged back towards the finish.
What we saw from the All Whites in that first game was a whole lot of fight, so we know that they’re not going to lie down here, even if they’re once again expected to lose by the early market. Smart bettors should consider taking the draw at chunky odds of +300.

New Zealand - Egypt: Form Analysis

The All Whites’ ability to dig deep, fight hard, be compact and make life tough for their opponents on the big stage was never really in question. What was in question was their ability to penetrate opposition defenses and score goals, but they answered those questions last time out, proving that it isn’t just EPL forward Chris Wood who can score goals. Can they continue to impress offensively or will they revert to type? That’s the new question hanging over Darren Bazeley’s men.

Taking on Belgium was never going to be easy for the Pharaohs, but let’s face it, they did an excellent job. Not only did the North Africans soak up pressure and defend stoutly, but they moved the ball smartly when regaining possession, showing themselves to be a threat on the break. It will now be interesting to see if they can be as effective in a game where they’re expected to dominate rather than play as the underdogs.

New Zealand & Egypt Squad Analysis
Darren Bazeley really won’t want to mess around with his starting XI too much, especially not after his men delivered such a strong effort last time out. Elijah Just was the best player on the day, scoring two goals, and the Motherwell forward will once again feature prominently, as will Chris Wood, who provided both assists in that tie against Iran.
he Pharaohs, like the All Whites, fought hard during the first round of group games, so much so that the head coach will likely have been pleased with all of his players.
There’s no need for Hossam Hassan to change much either. The Pharaohs, like the All Whites, fought hard during the first round of group games, so much so that the head coach will likely have been pleased with all of his players. We should expect to see a similar lineup take to the field in Vancouver.

Our New Zealand vs Egypt Prediction
If we really think about it, a tie would not be a bad result for either of these two teams. Sure, the New Zealanders may want to win this game more, with them taking on the Belgians next time out, but it would be a huge surprise if they took a cavalier approach. Instead, Bazeley’s men will make themselves tough to beat, which could lead to this being a very tight game.
The Egyptians don’t often find themselves involved in games that aren’t tight, and they don’t score many goals, especially when teams defend deep against them, so do not be surprised if this game ends all-square, just as each of their last three competitive games have.
