The long World Cup break was especially helpful for the Seattle Sounders, as it came at a point in the season when they were experiencing their worst losing streak of the year. They had lost to the LA Galaxy and LAFC, but since the MLS restart, they have now lost three in a row. Even more worrying is their 5-1 thrashing by the Portland Timbers in their first match after a long period of inactivity.
The Sounders leave Seattle to face Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on Wednesday. It's a match in which the visitors will be missing several key players, including Roldán, De La Vega, and Petković. Even so, the experienced Seattle team remains in the top 10 in the betting odds to win this MLS season and are considered favorites to beat Austin.
Austin FC also found some respite during the World Cup break, having lost their last three matches before it, including a 5-0 thrashing by San Diego. Even so, the Texas team didn't waste any time during the World Cup break; they played a couple of warm-up matches against Querétaro and Sporting Jax before the MLS restarted.
