For Matchday 12 of the Liga MX, no team will be as much of a betting favorite as América when they face Santos Laguna. The last time this matchup took place in the Mexican capital was in October 2024, when América won 3-0, albeit with all the goals scored after the 78th minute; that was a match in which Ismael Govea was sent off.
Santos Laguna, in a way, has finally shaken off the worst sporting and institutional crisis the team endured throughout the previous Clausura tournament, in which they finished last in the table, losing each of their last six matches to close out that tournament. Victories have not been a constant for the Torreón team in the new Apertura tournament, but they did at least score 1-0 wins against Chivas and Tijuana at Estadio Corona. However, on the road, Santos only collected one of a possible 15 points in this Apertura tournament. They are coming off a 1-0 loss to Monterrey at the Bancomer Stadium, although it was a narrower result than the sportsbooks had expected.
América doesn't want to concede any more ground to Toluca as the dominant force in Mexican soccer and made a significant impact by outperforming Pumas in every aspect in the previous match, which América won 4-1.

A highly unlikely Santos Laguna victory would pay odds at betting sites as high as +1050, but given the Torreón team's repeated defensive issues, a rout seems more likely than Santos' first win over América in seven years.
