Where does the betting value lie in the 2025 MLB All-Star game? The National League are slight favorites at Truist Park.

The 2025 MLB All-Star game will take place at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, on July 15. Aaron Boone and Dave Roberts are managing the American League and National League, respectively.

As always, several players have withdrawn from the game on each team, including José Ramírez, Julio Rodríguez, Zack Wheeler, Robbie Ray, Hunter Brown, Garrett Crochet, and Jacob deGrom.

These absences are a factor to consider when making MLB picks, while it’s also useful to reflect on what we learned in the first half of the MLB season when trying to identify the best value player props for Tuesday’s showpiece.

Pitchers Dominate All-Star Games

MLB All-Star: Skenes

Four of the last five All-Star games have had seven or fewer runs. Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes, starting for their respective teams, are only likely to pitch one inning apiece, but the pair will be backed up by elite arms.

Skubal and Skenes are enjoying all-time great seasons. Skubal has a 1.89 ERA in the first inning of games and sits in the 99th percentile in walk rate – it’s hard to see how even this stacked NL lineup can generate any early offense against the reigning AL Cy Young winner.

Skenes hasn’t been at his best of late, yet he’s not allowed a run in the first inning across 20 starts this season. He’s been pitching at less than 100% for most of the season to ensure his body survives the full campaign. With millions watching and with one inning to show off his outrageous stuff, look for Skenes to crank it up to 100+ on his fastball.

Carlos Estévez, the AL saves leader, Josh Hader, Andres Munoz, and Aroldis Chapman will pitch an inning apiece behind Skubal. Casey Mize, Joe Ryan, and Kris Bubic are also likely to appear. Even without some of the best pitchers in baseball, the AL have a formidable pitching staff.

The NL might have an even better group behind Skenes with Logan Webb, Andrew Abbott, Edwin Diaz, Jacob Misiorowski, and Robert Suarez among the arms likely to be used by Roberts.

NL Edge the Offenses

Javier Báez (109 OPS+), Jacob Wilson (.555 OPS over the last four weeks), and Gleyber Torres (.718 OPS over the last two weeks) are weak points in the American League starting lineup. The NL has the deeper all-around position player group, with Corbin Carroll, James Wood, and Matt Olson among those set to come off the bench.

The American League might edge the top-end talent in Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh compared with Shohei Ohtani and Pete Crow-Armstrong, but the absences of Alex Bregman and Ramírez make a major difference.

Best Bet: Under 0.5 1st Inning Runs, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. To Record A Hit, American League Under 3.5 Runs, & National League Moneyline at +676

Skubal and Skenes are going to put on a show in the first inning. At least three combined strikeouts are expected from the hard-throwing aces, and we wouldn’t rule out both pitchers striking out the side.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a former All-Star MVP who ranks in the 99th percentile in xBA. He rarely chases outside the zone and has impressive bat-to-ball skills to put the ball in play even against the elite stuff he will face from the NL arms.

The NL have the better all-around roster, even with Skubal, Raleigh, Judge, and others suiting up for the American League. While the American League has dominated the All-Star contest for the last decade-plus, the National League is well-placed to make it two wins in three years.

The losing All-Star team has scored under 3.5 runs in 15 of the last 16 games, so it makes sense to pair the NL moneyline with under 3.5 runs.
