Victoria Mboko of Canada eyes another deep run in the Middle East following a fourth-round finish at the 2026 Australian Open. The Canadian teen star will take on Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the second round of the 2026 Qatar Open.
Current Form:
Mboko advanced to the second round in Doha with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic. Ranked No.13 in the world, Mboko has compiled a 9-3 record this season, winning 63.6 percent of her first serves and breaking 50.5 percent of breakpoints. The Canadian rising also reached the final of the 2026 Adelaide International, losing to fellow teen star Mirra Andreeva 3-6, 1-6.
The qualifier Zvonareva earned her third straight victory in this WTA 1000 event, edging Peyton Stearns 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round. Zvonareva currently ranks outside the WTA top-500 at No.580, but the 41-year-old netter brings with her the experience of a two-time Grand Slam finalist and the caliber of a former world’s No.2.

Our Vera Zvonareva vs Victoria Mboko Prediction
Zvonareva has beaten three consecutive top-100 players to reach the second round of the 2026 Qatar Open. She is already past her prime at 41 years old, but Zvonareva is still showing the skills and pedigree that turned her into one of the most fearsome players on the tour a decade ago.
Agains the prodigious Mboko, Zvonareva faces a young and athletic player who likes to overpower her foes. In three matches in Doha, the Russian has won 77 percent of her first serves and converted 11 of 24 break-point chances.
Mboko is still the favorite to advance, but I wouldn’t write off Zvonareva so easily because it’s obvious this veteran has a lot of fight left in her.
