The Vancouver Canucks will finish off their six-game road trip with a difficult matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday at Benchmark International Arena. Manny Malhotra’s side has improved thanks to recent defensive displays and will look to maintain that level against Tampa Bay.
The Canucks are on a six-game losing streak and sit on a 2-6-1 record. With No. 1 goaltender Thatcher Demko sidelined, the team has heavily leaked goals, and there’s not enough offensive talent to make up for the shortfall at the other end of the ice.
However, Vancouver has limited the opposition to three goals in back-to-back games, and those were tough matchups against the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. A change between the sticks seems to have helped, with Leevi Merilainen starting instead Kevin Lankinen in each of the last two contests.
Tampa Bay holds a 5-2-0 record and is expected to crush the visitors in Saturday’s matchup. But Jon Cooper’s men could already have one eye on the upcoming games. The Lightning start next week on the road against two top-class teams: Vegas and Colorado. On Saturday, they could aim for a maximum result with minimal effort, resulting in a low-scoring clash.
