Early in the hours of Thursday morning, at least for those watching the action stateside, there's an intriguing clash due to take place at the Australian Open between Tomas Machac and Stefanos Tsitsipas. A few years ago, it looked as if Tsitsipas may go on to be one of the best in the business, but the Greek has never really managed to fulfil his early promise, often struggling to be at his best when it comes to the biggest tournaments. He did reach the final of the Australian Open back in 2023, though he's failed to match that achievement since, exiting in the first round last year. 

Now ranked at 35 in the world, the former world number three seemingly has a tough task here. Tomas Machac recently won an event in Adelaide, while he looked in excellent shape during the first round, defeating Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. That sort of performance points towards him leaving his Greek opponent behind here.
