On Wednesday afternoon, there's a very interesting US Open match between Taylor Townsend and Paula Badosa. This is an interesting match primarily because Townsend is seen as a quite sizable outsider here, and I'm just not sure that's right. Sure, the Spaniard has been in great form in recent weeks, but she's top quite a top-tier player and is thus not quite worthy of such strong favoritism ahead of a match of this nature.

I really do think that Taylor Townsend is getting too much disrespect from the early market. I know that Badosa has played some excellent stuff in recent weeks. She won the event in Washington, while she reached the semi-finals in Cincinnati, putting up a good fight. That form must be respected and I won't exactly be surprised if she does come through this test, but I cannot agree that she's as likely a winner as the early odds suggest, which is key. Townsend is a hard player to face when she's on it and she's often been on it in recent times, beating both Ostapenko and Kasatkina on hard courts. A repeat of those efforts here and she makes life very tough for her Spanish opponent, that's for sure. Frankly, the odds available are too generous, so I'm siding with Taylor Townsend to Win and taking the value. Our Best Bet: Taylor Townsend to Win.
