The 2026 season continues with the latest edition of the French Open! And in this first round, American top-10 player Taylor Fritz faces his compatriot Nishesh Basavareddy!
Taylor Fritz will step onto the Roland Garros courts for the 10th time in his career in this first round! Absent from the courts for several weeks, the 28-year-old has played only one match on clay this season, in Geneva last week. And, unsurprisingly, he struggled to immediately regain his rhythm and lost in his very first match to A. Popyrin. But this Grand Slam, which he is familiar with, having reached the round of 16 in 2024, should be the ideal tournament to get back on track and kick off a winning streak.
Nishesh Basavareddy, for his part, is competing in the very first French Open of his career. After winning the Savannah Challenger in April, the 21-year-old has yet to string together two consecutive wins in an ATP clay-court tournament this season, having been eliminated in the round of 16 in Houston and in the first round in Geneva. It’s a tough record to build on when facing a top-10 player.
