In Memphis, on Thursday, Peyton Stearns will go to work against a lower-ranked player for the second match in quick succession. She got it done during the first round, but her win was far from totally convincing, with her dropping a set to a player outside of the top 100. On this basis, Tatiana Prozorova, who has rarely lost on this surface in recent times, should be feeling quietly confident. 

Stearns is easily the higher-ranked player here, and as such, she is quite strongly fancied by the early market, but is she too strongly fancied? You could certainly make a case for that. After all, her opponent has shown strong recent form on this surface, plus the American hasn't won any of her last four hard-court matches against lower-ranked players in straight sets, so there's probably a lesser chance of her winning this without dropping a set than the early odds suggest.
