Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands will slug it out with Yosuke Watanuki of Japan on Tuesday with a place in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Indian Wells Open at stake. Griekspoor captured his sixth win in seven matches with a straight-set victory over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France 7-6(3) 6-3. With his confidence still at an all-time high following his upset win over No.1 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany, Griekspoor drilled 10 aces against one of the best servers on the ATP Tour while collecting 26 points off his first serves. A victory on Tuesday would catapult Griekspoor to his second straight quarterfinals, two weeks after he reached the semifinal round in Dubai. Watanuki has now won five straight in this tournament, beating the likes of Mattia Bellucci 6-1 6-2, Alexander Bublik 6-3 3-6 6-3, Tomas Machac 4-6 4-2 ret. and the most recent victim, Frances Tiafoe 6-4 7-6(6). The series of upsets put Watanuki in unfamiliar territory, at the doorstep of his first quarterfinal appearance at an ATP 1000 event tournament.
