Newly promoted Sunderland kick off their Premier League campaign with a tricky looking home clash against Graham Potter's West Ham. Since their dramatic play off final victory over Sheffield United in May, the Black Cats have been on a huge spending spree as they attempt to avoid an immediate return to the Championship. The likes of Simon Adingra and Granit Xhaka will add Premier League experience to the Sunderland midfield, whilst big things are expected of highly rated forward Marc Guiu, who arrives on loan from Chelsea.
West Ham boosted their defensive options by signing goalkeeper Mads Hermansen from relegated Leicester and left back El Hadji Malick Diouf from Sparta Prague. Centre back Jens Todibo has also been signed on a long term contract after a successful loan spell, whilst England striker Callum Wilson arrives on a free transfer from Newcastle. After a difficult first six months at the helm, Hammers' boss Graham Potter will be hoping for a fast start to the season to dispel any doubts about his future at the club.
