Greece (3-4) takes on Spain (5-2) in a FIBA World Cup Qualifying game on Monday, August 31, at Telekom Center Athens in Athens, Greece.
The last time these two teams faced was during the 2025 EuroBasket. Greece escaped with a 90-86 victory, but that was still with Giannis Antetokounmpo on their roster. Giannis finished with a team-high 25 points, on top of 14 rebounds and 9 assists.
On Monday, Greece will not have Giannis's two-way dominance anymore. Plus, they've lost their last three games, including an 82-76 loss to Ukraine on August 29. They allowed the Ukrainians to grab 14 offensive rebounds, leading to frustrations with their defense.
Veteran guard Nick Calathes led the way for Greece with 17 points and 8 assists. Tyler Dorsey contributed 16 points but only made one of his six three-point attempts.
With another loss, Greece might be in danger of missing the World Cup altogether.
As for Spain, they're also coming off a 95-89 loss to the streaking Portugal. Dario Brizuela scored 19 points, while Alvaro Cardenas and Joel Parra chipped in 18 and 17 markers, respectively.
