Serie A Preview and Picks

Serie A Predictions

Italy's top league, Serie A, is considered one of Europe's top 5 leagues alongside the Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, and the Bundesliga. That's a big part of why Serie A picks are so popular. Throughout the season, bettors get the chance to wager on matches involving Italy's 20 best clubs.

From matchday one through matchday 38 (August through late May), our free Serie A predictions are here to guide your bets at sportsbooks all season long. Below, you'll find our long-term picks, along with stats and tips for making smart Serie A predictions.

Serie A Winner Prediction: Who Wins the League?

Serie A Winner Prediction

Last season, Inter Milan controlled the race from early on and quickly made it clear to their rivals that the title was theirs. For the 2026-2027 season, will we see a similar story play out?

Across Italy's iconic stadiums, from the legendary San Siro (also known as Giuseppe Meazza) to the Juventus Stadium, and from the Stadio Olimpico to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Italy's top clubs will battle for the title, along with spots in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, not to mention the fight to avoid relegation!

As for the title, Inter Milan enters as the favorite with bookmakers. We're right there with that call too. The Nerazzurri have another top-tier roster and look poised to dominate Italian soccer once again.

Clubs like Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli still look a step behind in our view, and it's defending champion Inter Milan who should once again come out on top. Our Serie A 2026-2027 winner prediction: Inter Milan wins the title!

Serie A Top 4 Prediction: Which Teams Qualify for the Champions League?

Serie A Top 4 Prediction

Right behind the eventual champion, the clubs finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in Serie A will punch their ticket to our next Champions League predictions for the 2027-2028 edition.

Right behind Inter Milan, who we're picking to take the title, Napoli, last season's runner-up, looks well equipped to finish in the Champions League spots too. AC Milan, meanwhile, needs to bounce back after a disappointing finish to last season despite a strong start. Ruben Amorim's side should be back in the top 4 this time around.

The last spot is a tighter call between a few clubs, Roma, Juventus, and Como. We're putting our money on Roma, who brought in an excellent coach in Gian Piero Gasperini, who already did outstanding work there last season. Our Serie A top-4 prediction: Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli, and AS Roma qualify for the Champions League!

Serie A Europa League Prediction: Which Club Lands the Spot?

Serie A Top 5 Prediction

Along with the Coppa Italia winner, the club that finishes 5th in Serie A at the end of the 2026-2027 season will qualify for the 2027-2028 UEFA Europa League.

In the race for that spot, expect a great battle among the clubs mentioned above. We like Como, who launched a new project a few years back that's paying off nicely so far, to grab that 5th-place finish.

Despite the tight competition for 5th, our experts have made their call on Serie A's top 5. Our Europa League prediction: Como qualifies for the Europa League!

Serie A Conference League Prediction: Which Club Lands the Spot?

Serie A Top 6 Prediction

Last but not least, whichever club finishes 6th (or 7th, depending on the Coppa Italia winner) in Serie A this season will play in the next UEFA Conference League.

Italian clubs don't take this third-tier European competition lightly either. Roma won its inaugural edition, and Fiorentina reached the final in both 2023 and 2024, before falling in the semifinals two years ago and the quarterfinals last year. Plenty of Italian clubs clearly want a piece of this competition!

It's still tough to call who takes that 6th spot. Based on our analysis, the top 6 should once again feature a handful of Serie A's historically strong clubs.

We think Juventus, coming off a few disappointing seasons, could settle for that 6th spot this time around. The club just hasn't looked capable of competing at the top of the table lately. Our Conference League prediction: Juventus qualifies for the Conference League!

Serie A Relegation Predictions: Which Clubs Go Down?

Down at the bottom of the table, it's a different kind of fight entirely, one that plenty of clubs deal with every single year to avoid the drop.

This season should be no different, with a tight battle shaping up in Serie A. Three clubs will be relegated (18th, 19th, and 20th place) to Serie B for the 2027-2028 season. Start with the three promoted sides (Monza, Venezia, and Frosinone), who should be joined by clubs that battled to stay up all of last season, like Lecce and Genoa.

The relegation battle should stay tight right down to the wire, but we don't think the newly promoted clubs have what it takes to stick in Italy's top flight. Our Serie A relegation prediction: Monza, Venezia, and Frosinone go down!

Serie A Top Scorer Prediction: Who Wins the Golden Boot?

Italy's top league has plenty of individual stakes too. Every season, Serie A's top scorer race (the capocannoniere) is fiercely contested. Heading into 2026-2027, which forward finishes atop the scoring charts in Italy?

Here's our list of players worth watching this season:

  • Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan)
  • Moise Kean (Fiorentina)
  • Donyell Malen (AS Roma)
  • Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan)
  • Rasmus Højlund (Napoli)
  • Gonçalo Ramos (AC Milan)
  • Anastasios Douvikas (Como)
  • Jonathan David (Juventus)

After Lautaro Martínez took home last year's Golden Boot, who's got what it takes to win it this season?

It should be a tight race among everyone listed above, but we're once again backing Lautaro Martínez as our favorite. He found the net 17 times last season and shows no signs of slowing down.

New to Soccer Betting? How Does Serie A Work?

Serie A is Italy's top professional soccer division, featuring the country's 20 best clubs playing each other home and away.

The first half of the season runs from August through December, with every club facing each other once. That repeats between January and May, so every team plays each opponent twice (once at home, once on the road), for a total of 38 matchdays, or 380 matches per Serie A season.

By the final whistle of the season, several table spots carry major stakes:

  • The club that finishes 1st is crowned Italian champion (and qualifies for the Champions League)
  • The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-place clubs also qualify for the Champions League
  • The 5th-place club (and 6th, depending on the Coppa Italia winner) qualifies for the Europa League
  • The 6th-place club (or 7th, depending on the Coppa Italia winner) qualifies for the Conference League playoff round
  • The 18th, 19th, and 20th-place clubs are relegated to Serie B

Whether you're looking at the top or bottom of the table, a lot is riding on Italy's top league. That's exactly why Serie A betting is so popular with bettors ahead of every single match.

How Do You Make Good Predictions on Serie A Matches?

Serie A Picks and Predictions

Landing winning Serie A predictions takes a solid understanding of the league, along with good betting habits.

SportyTrader has covered soccer, and Serie A specifically, for years, and here are our top tips for making smart predictions:

  • Check the current form of every Italian club
  • Study the latest Serie A stats
  • Lean on expert analysis
  • Factor in what's at stake in the match
  • Track the injury and absence list around Italian soccer

We consider these the most important tips for making sharp Serie A predictions. We've broken each one down in more detail below.

Check the Current Form of Every Italian Club

Serie A Prediction Tips

This is probably the most important tip for making a reliable prediction on Serie A or any other soccer prediction. Checking the current form of all 20 clubs should become second nature every time you bet on Serie A.

Say you're considering a bet on Napoli, but they haven't won in 7 matches, while their opponent is riding a 5-match win streak. In that spot, it's probably best to steer clear of that pick, and lean toward the double chance on the opponent instead. Always keep a close eye on Serie A results.

On that note, it's worth stressing that recent scores alone don't tell the whole story. It's also important to track (closely or loosely) how a team's actually been performing: possession, Expected Goals, shots attempted, shots on target and conceded, and more.

A team can genuinely dominate their last two opponents and still come away with two losses. That doesn't mean they weren't playing well.

Study the Latest Serie A Stats

Serie A Prediction Help

Our second tip: dig into Serie A's stats. It's important to start with a broad overview of the numbers. Further down this page, you'll find Serie A's key stats, including scoring trends around over/under markets.

It's also worth checking each club's most recent match stats before making your prediction. The more current the numbers, the better read you'll have on each team's actual form right now.

Lean on Expert Analysis

Serie A Prediction Tips and Help

This tip carries real weight when it comes to succeeding at top sportsbooks. Before betting on Serie A, checking expert predictions can help confirm your own read, or make you think twice.

At SportyTrader, our handicappers factor in a wide range of details around each match and dig into a huge amount of stats to bring you the most reliable prediction possible. Don't hesitate to lean on that before placing a bet!

Factor in What's at Stake in the Match

Serie A Prediction Tips

This fourth tip isn't about the stats; it's about context. Is this a notoriously heated derby? Did something happen in the last meeting between these two teams? This factor matters a lot and is often underrated by bettors.

For example, looking back at recent matchups between Roma and Lazio, tension often takes over the match, and goals tend to be in short supply. Worth keeping in mind if you were planning to bet the over.

Track the Injury and Absence List Around Italian Soccer

Serie A Betting Tips

Last but not least, this final tip matters just as much as the others. Soccer's an 11-on-11 game, but every team has a few key players who are tough to replace, especially smaller clubs with thinner budgets and less squad depth.

Before placing any bet, it's worth checking the matchday squad announced by the coach to spot any major absences.

Injury, suspension, poor form, personal issues, a falling-out with the coach, there are plenty of reasons a player might be missing from a match. Always check for this before placing a bet at any sportsbook!

As you can imagine, our team always factors these tips into every Serie A prediction we make, along with plenty of other details specific to the competition.

Checking our Serie A match predictions gives you a reliable, big-picture view of every matchday. Make it a habit to check our picks before every Serie A weekend, and know that we cover the entire league.

What Not to Do With Your Serie A Predictions

Now that we've covered the best tips for setting yourself up for success on Serie A bets, let's cover what to avoid. There are a few bad habits worth cutting out.

Here's what we recommend steering clear of before making a Serie A prediction:

  • Skipping the analysis on the match you're betting on (Serie A included)
  • Only betting on long-shot odds
  • Not comparing Serie A odds and settling for worse value than another sportsbook offers
  • Betting on the Italian league without doing your homework
  • Chasing losses after a losing Serie A bet
  • Betting too often live or on boosted odds
  • Repeatedly betting on your favorite Italian club out of loyalty

Far too often, bettors, beginners and veterans alike, get burned by holding onto one of these habits.

Make sure to leave all of this behind before betting on Serie A!

Serie A Stats You Need to Know for Your Predictions

Serie A Stats

Beyond everything covered above, knowing Serie A's key stats is also a major part of making winning soccer predictions.

Here are the numbers worth keeping in mind for your Serie A picks, based on the most recent completed season (2025-2026):

  • Home wins: 39%
  • Draws: 26%
  • Away wins: 35%
  • Average goals per match: 2.43
  • Over 0.5 goals: 91%
  • Under 0.5 goals: 9%
  • Over 1.5 goals: 70%
  • Under 1.5 goals: 30%
  • Over 2.5 goals: 46%
  • Under 2.5 goals: 54%
  • Over 3.5 goals: 22%
  • Under 3.5 goals: 78%
  • Over 4.5 goals: 10%
  • Under 4.5 goals: 90%
  • 15-minute window with the most goals: 76th-90th minute (22%)
  • Percentage of goals scored in the first half: 43%
  • Percentage of goals scored in the second half: 57%
  • Average goals scored by the home team: 1.28
  • Average goals scored by the away team: 1.15
  • Both teams to score: yes: 45%
  • Average shots per match: 24.63
  • Win by 2+ goals (spread): 32.3% of matches
  • Exact score 0-0: 9.5% of matches
  • Exact score 1-1: 9.7% of matches
  • Most common scoreline: 1-0 or 0-1 (20.5% of matches)

Looking at these numbers, some Serie A markets stand out as smarter bets than others. The home win rate is relatively low, so a double chance draw-or-away could be worth exploring. Serie A remains a pretty even league overall, and home-field advantage isn't as strong here as in some other leagues. For better value, an away win looks genuinely appealing based on these numbers.

Worth noting: an exact score of 1-0 (or 0-1) hits in more than 1 out of every 5 matches. Serie A odds on that market tend to offer solid value, and it's become one of the more popular soccer bets out there, so it's worth a shot this season. For goal-heavy bettors, the final 15 minutes and the second half in general tend to produce more scoring than the first half!
