Two Serie A teams that have yet to live up to expectations meet on Saturday at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo when Venezia faces Napoli. They last met at this stadium in 2015, when they played to a goalless draw.
Massimiliano Allegri's Napoli suffered another defeat; they were eliminated midweek in the Champions League, conceding an 8th-minute goal to Rrahmani. Napoli had taken an early lead, but by the 26th minute they were already trailing in a match they would go on to lose 3-1 to Villarreal in Spain. Even so, in Serie A, Napoli has had a modest resurgence: wins against Bologna and Frosinone; a draw with Fiorentina in between; and they now sit in eighth place in the Serie A standings.
Meanwhile, Venezia is mired in a sporting crisis, having had the worst start of any club in Europe's top five leagues. They lost to Lecce, Milan, Frosinone, Fiorentina, Lazio, and Atalanta and were also eliminated from the Coppa Italia. These results led to the dismissal of manager Stroppa.
