Fresh off her second WTA 125 title in Birmingham, Alexandra Eala looks to make more noise on grass at the 2026 HSBC Championship at Queen’s Club.
Eala opened the grass-court swing with five consecutive victories to rule the WTA 125 Birmingham Open. Eala, who only dropped two sets in the tournament, outlasted Nikola Bartunkova 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in a rain-delayed final on Saturday. The Filipina improved her grass-court record to 20-8 (71.4 % win rate).
World’s No.64 Zhang Shuai punched her ticket to the main draw of the HSBC Championship after besting a couple of Brits in the qualifiers. The Chinese defeated Hannah Klugman 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and Heather Watson 6-3, 6-4. Zhang owns a 39-37 record on grass and once reached the quarterfinal of the Wimbledon Open in 2019.
Eala might be the betting favorite here, but the 37-year-old Zhang has the experience and past success in grass-court’s prestigious tournaments to make this a difficult contest for the Filipina.

Our Shuai Zhang vs Alexandra Eala Prediction
Zhang Shuai pushes Alexandra Eala to three sets.
Eala will be playing her sixth match in eight days, which means the Filipina will have to tap into her energy reserves to survive this tough duel with the Chinese veteran.
Eala has grown a lot since her breakthrough run in Miami last year, becoming a more polished player across all four surfaces. Eala has also elevated her profile as a potent opponent on grass after her title run in Birmingham and final appearance at the Eastbourne International.
Still, Zhang poses a certain level of danger to Eala because she has played more grass-court matches and staged deep runs in prestigious grass tournaments, including a quarterfinal run at the 2019 Wimbledon Open.
And while Eala might still be a solid bet to advance, Zhang will not hand out a win so easily.
