The San Jose Sharks (24-20-3) are facing off with the Florida Panthers on Monday evening before they head to Tampa Bay to complete their 4-game road trip with a game against the Lightning (30-13-4). These teams faced off earlier this month and the Lightning thumped the Sharks 7-3. Both Alex Nedeljkovic and Yaroslav Askarov had rough outings in the net for the Sharks in that previous meeting; they combined to allow 7 goals and saved just 19 of 26 shots. Darren Raddysh picked up a hat trick while Nikita Kucherov added a goal of his own to go with his 4 assists.
The Lightning are currently sitting at the top of the Atlantic Division and the entire Eastern Conference. Their play during the new year has played a large part in their position in the standings. The Lightning have won 7 of their 8 games to this point in 2026 and are coming off a strong 4-1 win over Dallas on Sunday. During their current 8-game stretch, the Lightning have been outscoring opponents by an average of 2.5 goals per game.
The Sharks have not had as successful a start in 2026 as the Lightning, but they are currently a game over .500 this year before heading into their matchup with Florida on Monday evening. In all their wins to this point in 2026 have come when they scored more than 3 goals. In all 3 losses, they were held to 3 or fewer and have allowed a total of 18 goals in those 3 losses. When they win, it is typically high scoring; when it is a loss, their lamp is lit at a staggering rate.
If San Jose plans on being successful against the visiting Lightning, they will need to be stronger on the defensive end of the ice and not allow anything close to the 7 goals they allowed in their previous matchup. That will not be a simple task as the Lightning are currently 5th in the league in goals scored per game.

Our Tampa Bay Lightning vs San Jose Sharks Prediction
Even if these teams were playing each other with the same amount of rest, we would still back the Lightning. Now, factoring in that the Sharks are playing the night before and will be finishing up a grueling 4-game road trip, our confidence in the Lightning is much higher. We would even play the puck line at -1.5 for a smaller price as well. We do not believe the Sharks will be able to slow down this aggressive Lightning attack and are likely to head home with another loss.
